Martall

Throughout his travels, Lander is repeatedly drawn to trees that seem to radiate an almost tangible energy. They lead him towards unfamiliar places where time appears to slow down and silence takes on a presence of its own. At times, it feels as though he is holding silent conversations with them, as if he could relive a history far older than himself.

On the west coast of Sweden, Lander encountered the Martall pines. Shaped by relentless winter winds that press them close to the ground, they reach for the light again each summer. Their forms emerge not despite resistance, but because of it. They bend, twist and continually find a new balance.

One evening, just before sunset, he came upon an entire forest of these trees. The last light traced their contours, drawing him deeper and deeper into the landscape. From one tree to the next, with no destination. Only wonder.

In his studio, Lander does not seek to reproduce that memory but to relive it. Marble becomes a search for the same tension between strength and fragility, between mass and emptiness. A form that not only catches the light, but is shaped by it.

The result is not a tree. It is the echo of an encounter. An organic form born from movement, one that shapes the surrounding space and invites a moment of stillness. 2026
